Excel Tips and Tricks

Learning Microsoft Excel Tips and Tricks

If you are new to Microsoft Office one of the best ways to get started on using Excel is to find some commonly used tips and tricks that make using the program faster and more convenient. These tips and tricks have been identified by people who have been using Excel for a number of years and have learnt all the shortcuts and the best ways to get what you want from a spreadsheet.

One of the first things that you need to know is how to enter information into a cell in Excel. A cell is one block that forms part of an entire spreadsheet and there are two ways in which you can go about entering the necessary information. Using Excel hints and tricks it is recommended that you simply select the cell in which you want to enter data with your mouse pointer and then simply begin typing. You can use both text and number in Excel cells.

The other way is to enter the information into the function bar that is displayed at the top of an Excel worksheet. You will still need to select the cell in which the data will need to be entered. This process is not recommended for basic Excel users and is more appropriate for inserting a formula into a cell. Formulas can also be inserted into a cell using the Excel hints and tricks mentioned in the above paragraph.

You will also need to learn how to format different cells in Excel. Simply select a cell using the method described in the above Excel hints and tricks and then right click on your mouse button. You will then receive a menu where you can select to do a number of things to change the way in which information is reflected in the selected cell such as changing the font, adding colour to the cell, creating borders and many more. You can also select more than one cell by left clicking on a specific cell and then dragging the mouse pointer over a the other cells you want selected before releasing the mouse button.

Once you have mastered entering data and formatting cells in a spreadsheet you can learn to use some other functions that are available in the top task bar. When you first open Excel this taskbar will come with default settings that you can change at a later date to suit your unique spreadsheet development requirements. Excel tips and trick do not recommend that you change the taskbar setting until you are more skilled at using the Excel software program.

The best way to get accustomed to using Excel and finding out all the functions that the program can provide you with is to simply play around with the different applications. You can also access the Excel or Microsoft Office help function and type in any keyword or question that you may have regarding any functions in Excel functions that you may be unsure of. All Excel hints and tricks recommend that you use the help function as much as possible while you are learning to use the program.

There is of course a much simpler route to take in getting your hands on the best Excel hints and tricks and that is to simply take an Excel training course. There are lots of different Excel courses available to cover the most basic principles to the most advanced processes that are available on Excel, teaching you all the tips and tricks to best work Excel. Just make sure that the course you choose is Microsoft certified so that you will be sure to receive some type of qualification to use the software upon completion of the training.
