One of the free Excel spreadsheets help pages that you will find here at Audit Excel is that of working with PASTE SPECIAL. Oftentimes you will need to copy a formula or in other cases all the content of a cell and paste that into another cell. When using the normal copy and paste method you will find that the formula will no longer be active in the cell where the pasted information is. As such view our free Excel spreadsheet help page on how to overcome the problem through the use of the PASTE SPECIAL feature.

How does the PASTE SPECIAL feature work?
It is a function that will allow you to control how much information will be copied and pasted into specific cells. Instead of highlighting cells and then using the copy option you will use the PASTE SPECIAL option. You may for instance, not want the borders of a cell included when you paste the information.
How to activate the feature
Highlight the area that you want to copy and then select Copy from Edit on the menu bar. Place your cursor in the area where you want the information to be pasted and then select Paste Special from the Edit window on the menu bar.
It will give you several options. Select the appropriate option such as ALL, Formulas, Values, Format or Comments. More advanced options are available. Click on OK once you have selected and the pasting will be done.
