How to set a professional spreadsheet template as default
A few tips on how to save a professional spreadsheet template as default are shared below.
Steps for creating the professional spreadsheet template
First you will have to create a workbook that includes all the settings that will be used for the creation of the professional spreadsheet. It should include:
- Sheets
- Formulas
- All the macros
- Column headings and label text
- Header and footer default text.
Once you have done the above you can select File Save As from the menu at save template as:
Nameoftemplate.xlt to the folder where you want it stored. If you have not created a folder yet, do so before saving the template. You can save it to the templates folder which will open when you select to save it as a template, thus xlt in the Save As box.
How to make the template the default
To make it the default template you should save the folder to the XLStart folder which you will find under Windows; Application Data; Microsoft; Excel; XLStart. It should be in the following directory level of your computer: C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLStart. Finally in the file naming box type the template name and then save it. You have thus set it to be the default template which will automatically open.
