Reporting on data in Microsoft Excel

 

  Excel is often used to report on data. The best reporting tool in Excel is the Pivot Tables and Conditional Formatting. To get this far you should have knowledge on Cleaning up Data and Manipulating Data which are available as short tutorials on the linked pages. In all courses we have assumed that you have been through our basics course.

Pivot Tables
Pivot Tables must rate as one of the best tools in Excel. If the data is set up correctly, there is almost a limitless number of reports that can be extracted by a simple click and drag. This is a quick intro into using Pivot Tables.

Conditional Formatting
It is always useful to use colours and formatting in general to emphasis certain aspects of information. What is even more useful is if Excel can change the format of a cell based on some pre defined criteria. With conditional formatting this is possible (and involves NO macros)
