Date Functions in Microsoft Excel

Excel formula and functions that assist with handling dates especially when trying to include them in calculations.

DATE, DAY, MONTH, and YEAR

These functions allow you easily extract various components of a date for further manipulations, or to combine bits of a date into a format that Excel can understand.

EOMONTH
The EOMONTH (end of month) function allows  you to generate a month end date no matter what the original date (even taking into account leap years). Extremely useful when you want to report on standardized dates.

Excel Help File Description: Returns the serial number for the last day of the month that is the indicated number of months before or after start date. Use EOMONTH to calculate maturity dates or due dates that fall on the last day of the month. If this function is not available, and returns the #NAME? error, install and load the Analysis ToolPak add-in (follow this link to learn how).

EDATE
The EDATE function generates a date a specified number of months before or after a reference date.

Excel Help File Description: Returns the serial number that represents the date that is the indicated number of months before or after a specified date (the start_date). Use EDATE to calculate maturity dates or due dates that fall on the same day of the month as the date of issue.
