Excel Accounting

Audit Excel can teach you to harness the power of Excel to perform all your accounting tasks. Excel accounting is versatile and powerful and an excellent substitute for dedicated accounting software packages. In fact, accountants use Excel accounting more than any other tool when they need to analyse and share financial data in the corporate environment.

A very big advantage of Excel is that there are so many roads to the same destination. This means that there is very little you cannot achieve with deft use of its functions. If there is no function for the task you want to perform, the desired result can often be obtained through combining some existing functions. In fact, accountants find it very useful that Excel can perform calculations only on data, items or cells that meet certain pre-defined criteria by using SumProduct and the Database and Array functions. In addition, Excel’s Offset function allows you to determine how you want to select your data, whether it is for a separate or cumulative period.

You can audit your spreadsheets to root out errors and Excel’s validation procedures and error checking can show you exactly how the different models have been reconciled. It is easy to find and calculate outstanding principle amounts, loan repayments or interest by using functions such as PPMT, PMT and IPMT. Excel is also extendable, meaning that you can download additional tools such as the Analysis Toolpack and many add-ins, to add to the vast array of existing functions.
