Compare 3 variables in excel

A common requirement from training delegates is to compare 3 variables in excel. With use of the correct formula this is fairly easy.

The first option is using the IF function (watch the IF function here). The problem with this is that once you go past 2 options, you need to start creating nested IF’s which eventually becomes complex to build, correct and understand.

The better method is to use the AND and OR functions (watch AND & OR functions here). These functions allow you to compare 2 or more (up to 255 variables) against certain criteria with the AND & OR deciding whether they all must be true or only one has to be true.
