Conditional formatting without numbers

We regularly get asked if it is possible to use Conditional Formatting without numbers i.e. you see the conditional format (e.g. data bars) but not the numbers they are based on.

So below we have created some data bars in column B but do not want to see the numbers, only the bars. If you click on CONDITIONAL FORMATTING and then MANAGE RULES you will get to the screen shown below. You can see that there is an option that does exactly that, Show Bar only.

When you select that option, the numbers appear to disappear as shown below. They are in fact still there but hidden. This can be used effectively when creating dashboards.
