Do I have PowerPivot

Do I have PowerPivot?

This is a surprisingly difficult question to answer. Due to the way it has been rolled out you may or may not already have it, and even if you download it (Excel 2010) you may or may not be able to install it. There are 2 different versions so depending on your version of Excel you will need to check whether you have PowerPivot in different ways. (See this petition to make it available to all Excel users)

Excel 2013 PowerPivot

The easiest way to know this is just to try and switch PowerPivot on. To do this do the following:

  • Open your Excel 2013
  • Click on File
  • Click on Options

The-PowerPivot-Ribbon-2

  • Click on the Add Ins button
  • At the bottom click on the Excel Add-Ins dropdown and change it to COM Add-Ins
  • Click on the GO button

The-PowerPivot-Ribbon-3

  • If you have it you will see ‘Microsoft Office PowerPivot for Excel 2013’ or something similar.
  • Switch it on and you are good to go

The-PowerPivot-Ribbon-4

If you didn’t see it your probably don’t have the correct version. You need to speak to your IT department or Microsoft.

Excel 2010 PowerPivot

For Excel 2010 you can download a free Add In to load PowerPivot. You can get it from the Microsoft site. Click on the Download button.

You need to choose one of the versions but a quick way is to download both and then run them. If it is the incorrect version it will tell you. Delete it and try the other one. Follow the same process as above to activate it.
