Pastel export to excel problem
The majority of financial packages have the ability to extract information into a spreadsheet for further work. One such tool in Pastel. However there is a slight Pastel export to excel problem that clients encounter.
Specifically this occurs when Pastel exports a blank value e.g. a trial balance where there is a number in the debit column but not in the credit column. If you try and use the credit column you may discover that Excel gives you VALUE errors.
The reason for this is that Pastel exports the cell with an apostrophe (‘) in the cell. When you look at the cell it seems blank but if you look at the formula bar you will see the (‘). If you try and perform arithmetic on it, you get value errors. So Excel considers this a blank cell which is different from a zero cell.
In order to fix this, you may need to create an IF function, and check if the cell contains a blank (shown as “” – no space), and then perform your calculation.
