Spreadsheet Risk Awareness And Control

Spreadsheet Risk Awareness And Control

Continuing on a previous theme around spreadsheet risk awareness and control, Huffington Post is reporting on another issue relating to spreadsheets. In this case it is less to do with errors in a spreadsheet and more with the confidential data stored on spreadsheets.

It seems that an Excel spreadsheet exists within the affected organisation which details employees who have family members that are in some way related to ‘projects of interests’ and presumably would receive special attention.

Other similar examples related to spreadsheets sent out with pivot tables of summarised information. What the sender did not realise is that by simply double clicking the grand total of the pivot table, you can extract all the detailed (and sensitive) information.
